FRESH OFF THE TOAST
Swedish cult movie maker Jonas Wolcher makes his forth music video this year. This time he brings back the genre "Space Opera". The Swedish band Vogon Poetry got an eye for "Danger of Space" which is their upcoming single and first real music video.
Roger Tell the manager and songwriter explains. "We contributed with a couple of songs to Jonas Wolcher's "Cannibal Fog" in 2014. When we begain to plan our latest album I got the idea of letting someone who loves the genre so much as Jonas does direct our video so I asked him. He didn't hesitated for a minute and said yes".
- This was offer I could not resist. It was like a dream come true. I've always loved aliens and space ships, says Jonas Wolcher.
The importance of narration
Jonas continues, each time I direct a music video I believe it's important to tell a story more than just let the band sing and perform. It doesn't matter if you are professional actor or amateur. If the director knows what's he's doing it's going to be good. Making this video with Vogon Poetry is something extra. They gave me a clean sheet and I've filled it with wonderful ideas and a nice little story.
It takes place on a small space wessel somewhere in space when something strange happens on board. Their beloved droid gets droidnapped and the crew decides to go after it. They follow a track and suddenly they are in a middle of a space war.
Props beats CGI
- The importance of making this believable was to strip the video from too much CGI as possible.
We head for old school techniques. When you see the props it's the real deal. No green screen backgrounds or space ships. Prop master and director Gustav Ljungdahl "Root of Darkness" has made the space men's costumes for the video including the strange looking brain headgear.
Micke Mikeadelica Gustafsson contributed with sets from various productions and a full interior of a space ship cockpit.
Buckle up. It's going to be a bumpy ride!
